How do I change the default scan settings?

You can change the default scan settings by pressing the ‘Additional Functions’ button and going to:-

Communication Setting -> TX Settings(under Common Settings) -> Edit Standard Send Settings

Load Paper Message

The “Load Paper” message will only normally appear when you have sent a print job from your computer. A number of items could be the culprit. The first is you have simply run out of paper so you need to load the paper drawer with fresh paper and the message will disappear.

Should this not be the case and the message is still there, the easiest way to clear the message is to press the “System Monitor” button located on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Once you have pressed this button the screen will tell you what location it is currently trying to print to. It could be any of the paper drawers or the Stack Bypass. If you then press any one of the paper drawer buttons this will force the print job to print to that tray and clear the message.

If this message continues to appear when you print try the following:-

The most common cause of this error is that the page size in the program you are using is set for “Letter” page size. This is an American size paper which is shorter that A4. The machine thinks you want to print on this paper size so it comes up with the message “Load Paper” as it is looking for “Letter” paper size. If we use Microsoft Word as an example, go to File – Page Setup – Paper. If the page size is “Letter” then change to “A4” and also click on the Default to permanently change to A4. This should stop the load paper message.

The other reason this message comes up is that you may have selected the “Stack Bypass” tray (located on the side of the machine) from your computer and there is no paper in this tray. Load paper in the tray and if the job prints out then change this by going File – Page Setup – Paper and check that the paper source does not have the Stack Bypass selected.

If you have checked all the items above then the printer driver on your computer may not be setup correctly. Do the following. Click on Start – Settings – Printers and Faxes. Find the print driver for your Canon copier/printer, click on it once, then right mouse click and select properties. Now select the Device settings tab and finally the “Form to tray assignment tab”. The error will be that the paper size and orientation will not correspond with what is actually in your Canon printer. Set the paper sizes to reflect what is in each drawer. The one that catches most people out is if the A4 is in the drawer in landscape then make sure you have “short end feed” ticked on the corresponding drawer.

Paper Constantly Misfeeding

A very common reason that the paper keeps getting caught in the copier/printer is someone has inadvertently changed a setting on the machine’s paper drawers which will result in the paper constantly jamming.

To check to see if this is the case, please open the top paper drawer  and look on the inside right of the drawer for a round blue dial or on some models it may be a slide lever. It is easy to locate as they are blue in colour. Please refer to the photo if in doubt.

Now check to see what paper size the dial or lever is indicating. If the drawer has A4 portrait paper in it the dial should indicate A4. If the paper is in the drawer as landscape the dial should be on A4R.

Check all the other drawers to verify that they are also correct and indicate the actual paper that is in the corresponding drawer. Should the unit continue to malfunction after checking the above, please call us and we will dispatch one of our Canon trained technicians promptly.

Lines on Copies

Should pencil thin lines appear on your photocopies when using the machines document feeder it could simply be a case of a dirty slit glass.  Firstly, let’s confirm if this is the case by either placing a good original directly on the glass or by sending a print job from your computer.  If the lines are not visible from either of these two methods then you do have some dirt on the slit glass.

The slit glass is the small panel of glass to the left of the large glass.  Please see the photo above.  Simply get a clean rag, spray some Mr. Sheen or any glass cleaning product onto the rag and wipe the slit glass to remove any marks, glue, whiteout etc.  Presto………No more lines.
